I've been sitting on this news for so long, but here it is: I HAVE ANOTHER BOOK COMING OUT NEXT YEAR!
This one is not a mystery, but it's near and dear to my heart all the same. WE ARE NOT ALONE is the story of a cancer survivor who has lost a friend (to another form of cancer) and is trying to make sense of his grief by looking for the secrets of the unknown--a.k.a. aliens and unidentified aerial phenomena. He's forced to pair up with a popular girl, Cat Pellegrini, to find the truth about UFOs. But they find they have more in common than they think 🤓🛸
This one has a (suspiciously X-Files-y) show called Otherworld guiding a nerdy pair of characters to the truth. It also has some code-breaking, which made my heart sing.
I've always wanted to write a story about the "after" of cancer--as a survivor AND someone who has lost a best friend to cancer. When I went through this awful disease, I was really looking for a story that 1) was about someone with cancer who LIVES, 2) was funny (cancer kids get to make jokes too!), and 3) that would make kids dealing with serious illnesses feel hopeful.
